What We Do.

Within the development arena, successful placemaking is part art and part science. The KHL workprograms are crafted to address both aspects of placemaking, as our experience in creating enduring retail environments supports the theory that you need a balance of both to optimize the retail vision and its sense of place.

For colleges and universities, this balance is especially true, as the success of a campus is largely based upon the ability of the separate components to create a cohesive whole, one that promotes and encourages circulation amongst the different features and uses of the project, allowing students, faculty and visitors to experience and enjoy multiple aspects of the place.  Universities are long-term real estate stakeholders and our recommendations take the broader campus vision and extended master plan into consideration when developing solutions.  We believe in creating programs that can flex and grow to accomodate populations as additional supply and density comes online.

KHL Retail works with universities and private developers in determining the appropriate context and merchandising for a project.  Our recommendations are based on extensive research, grounded by the information provided to us by the local community, as well as direct feedback from national and local retailers, and overlaid against the campus' long-term master plan to create a holistic and informed program for retail.  Our team has extensive experience in building retail infrastructure for higher education clients - developing master plans, working with Real Estate/Facilities to develop layouts and equipment specifications, structuring development partnerships and management contracts and leasing campus retail.
