Development
Kathy Lin founded KHL Retail in 2009 and oversees the firm’s development and advisory practices. She provides real estate development and strategic advisory services to a wide range of real estate owner/operators, as well as several retail/consumer/hospitality brands. Past and current clients include Bank of America, Caesars Entertainment, Clayco, Dominion Energy, Food Network, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Princeton University and Virgin Hotels.
Prior to forming KHL Retail, Kathy served as part of the senior management team behind BlackRock’s $500.0MM retail opportunity fund, a closed-end vehicle focusing on value-added retail development/redevelopment. As a Director, she was responsible for product sourcing, deal structuring and day-to-day oversight for retail development assets nationally.
She had previously been responsible for retail development projects and consulting activity for Madison Marquette as Senior Vice President. Her projects included the University of Pennsylvania, the General Motors Building, Harrah’s casinos, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, International Marketplace, and Suburban Square.
Kathy has also served as a Director with Tishman Speyer Properties, working on the retail redevelopment and leasing of Rockefeller Center’s 400,000 square feet of retail and development of the observation deck (Top of the Rock) and new Rainbow Room. During her tenure at TSP, she also served as a portfolio manager for over $2.0B of office assets, and worked with the acquisitions team on several projects, including the Chrysler Building and 666 Fifth Avenue.
She began her career at Arthur Andersen, working as a Manager in the Economic and Financial Consulting group, managing a team of 20 professionals for acquisition, feasibility, and valuation assignments for commercial real estate assets and loans. Her clients included General Electric Capital Corporation, CS First Boston, Goldman Sachs, Nomura Securities, W.P. Carey and Harvard University.
Kathy is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Communications with a concentration in Marketing. She has served as a national board member for the International Council of Shopping Center’s (ICSC) Next Generation Program and appeared in numerous national retail publications. She has served as a guest speaker/moderator for the Association of University Real Estate Officials (AUREO), ICSC, the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the Wharton School of Business.
